How to become a lead generation specialist

Lead generation means finding people who are likely to need a business's service and starting a respectful conversation. Good lead generation is research and relationships, not spam.
The core skills
- Defining the ideal customer: industry, size, location and the problem they have.
- Research: finding the right person at each company using public, professional sources.
- CRM hygiene: one record per person, clear stages and notes after every touch.
- Writing outreach: short, specific messages that show you understand their business.
Do it the right way
- Follow each platform's rules and send messages at a human pace. Automated mass messaging can get accounts restricted.
- Respect privacy and anti-spam laws where you and the recipient live, and always honour requests to stop.
- Personalise every first message. If you cannot find a reason to contact someone, do not contact them.
A first message that works
Hi [name], I saw [something specific about their business]. We help [type of business] with [result]. Would it be useful if I sent a short example of how that could work for [company]?
Measure what matters
Track reply rate and booked calls, not just messages sent. Ten thoughtful messages that start three conversations beat a hundred ignored ones. Share these numbers with your client every week.
